Is It Appropriate?
Monday morning, first day of Spring Break for Kiera, and she didn’t feel well. She had a low-grade fever and a headache. I stayed home with her instead of sending her over to get someone else sick.
We dropped Aaron off at work and headed back to the house. “Do you want to lay down and watch a girl movie when we get home?” I asked her.
“Yes, please.” She responded. “What should we watch?”
“Hmm… I’ll have to look when we get home.” I answered.
“Can I do a search on my phone?” Kiera asked.
Glancing over at her, I was struck by how much she has grown. “Sure.” I replied. “Search teenage girl movies.”
She typed her search in the search bar and began to read the movie titles out loud. I didn’t recognize several and the ones I did recognize… well, to be honest, it had been so long since I had watched them I couldn’t remember what they were about.
“What about this one?” She asked studying her phone screen. “It’s called ’13 going on 30.’”
“I know I watched it, but I can’t remember what it is about.” I replied, glancing over my shoulder as I switched lanes.
“It was made before I was born.” She answered as if that would help my memory.
She scrolled a little further down on her phone before stating. “Oh. Here is a trailer for the movie. I’ll watch it and see if it is appropriate for us.”
I bit my lip to keep from laughing as she hit play to watch the trailer.
Apparently it did not impress her because she decided against it.
When we made it home, we found an “appropriate” girl movie and spent a good part of the day relaxing on my bed, cuddling with the dogs and watching movies.
