A Look Back
Today is a little different. Not only am I posting a day early, I am going to take you back 13 years ago.
Today is a special day for Aaron and I. We celebrate 13 years of marriage. I won’t lie. It’s been a crazy road… with a capital C. We’ve been through so much together and thankfully we always come out stronger.
Aaron is my rock. He brings clarity to craziness, calm to chaos. I love how he can make me laugh when I’m upset and how he knows what I am feeling. Oh, don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of times that I can get mad at him. But, I still love him with every fiber of my body.
He works hard every day to help provide for our family. And every day, he comes home, either cooks dinner or helps cook dinner. We share all the responsibilities. Not only is he a blessing to me, but also to Kiera. I just couldn’t ask for a better husband or a better father for our child.
As I sat down to write, I remembered a column that I had written exactly 13 years ago. Most of you may not know, but I used to be the Associate Editor for the Goldthwaite Eagle. During that time, I wrote a column for the paper.
I went out to our storage and dug this out so that I could share it with you.
My Fairy Tale Wedding
I stood peeking out of the vertical blinds covering the patio door, clutching my bouquet and trying to remember to breathe. I watched Rachel and Ann, my bridesmaids begin their descent down the rock stairs that were covered with a white aisle runner, leading into the backyard.
I stepped away from the door and took another deep breath, wishing for a last glimpse in a mirror. I smiled at our florist who was behind the blinds waiting to open the door for my grand entrance.
He smiled back and then said the words I will most definitely write down in my wedding book… “Watch out for the bricks on the stairs. They’re holding the aisle runner down.”
As I walked down the aisle to meet Aaron, I forgot about all the craziness that had been going on before. The lost earring, making sure that I went on my cue during the music, all the things that seemed so important fifteen minutes before no longer existed.
I was concentrating on my personal hero and best friend, smiling at me from the edge of the platform.
Our wedding was beautiful and even if it had rained, I don’t think I would have cared.
It went by so fast. By the time that we were done with the pictures, and had a small slice of cake, it was time to make our exit in the horse drawn carriage. Definitely my fairy tale wedding with my own fairy tale prince.
I know that our life will not always be a fairy tale; that we will have struggles just like every other couple. But I believe our life will be mostly filled with great laughter and happiness. And for about four hours on Saturday, June 24, I was a princess standing beside my prince.
Aaron, I love you and look forward to our journey of life together.
That is still true today. I love you so much. Thank you for being the man you are, being the father you are, and thank you for being my best friend and husband.
Happy Anniversary!
