Walking The Halls
Well, it’s officially the week to get back into the swing of school. Kiera starts back to school Wednesday. That means earlier mornings for me.
I really feel unorganized this year. I’m not sure what happened, but I am not prepared. In fact, today I am going to take Kiera to the store to finish shopping for school clothes.
This year, Kiera is going into third grade. It was just a short time ago that we dropped her off for Kindergarten. There were many days that I would have to hop out of the truck and walk her all the way in while Aaron drove around the block.
Monday night as we drove to school to meet the teacher, Kiera said, “You know, I can see me in the future walking down the same halls at East.”
“Oh yeah?” I responded. “Like in third grade?”
“No, as a teacher. I would like to teach at East.” Kiera quietly replied.
I glanced over at her. “You want to carry on Mrs. Wilbourn’s traditions?” I softly asked.
With a thoughtful look on her face, she looked at me as she said, “Yes. I would like that.”
I can guarantee that Mrs. Wilbourn would love that.
We are excited about what this year holds. When we pulled up to the school on Monday night, Kiera strolled in without hesitation. I pray that she continues to stroll into school every day with her head held high, kindness in her heart and a willingness to learn.
For the next couple of weeks take a moment and say a prayer for the new school year. Say a prayer for the teachers, staff, kiddos, and even parents as they all adjust.
And… maybe say a prayer that this Mama gets up on time.
