Just a Little Shoe Shopping
Grandmommy, Kiera and I went shoe shopping Sunday afternoon. We are prepping for a big event at my work and this week, I will be non-stop running around on my feet.
That said; I desperately needed a new pair of tennis shoes.
We walked in the store and I turned to Kiera. “Ok, you need to either stay with Grandmommy or me.” I stated.
“I’ll go with Grandmommy.” Kiera replied as they stopped to look at some jewelry.
Now, I love my child. Love, love, love her. But the prospect of trying on shoes by myself… I hurried as fast as I could to the back of the store where the shoes were located and began searching.
I had managed to try on a couple of pairs when I heard a strange clomping sound. Ignoring it, I continued my search for a comfortable but cute pair of tennis shoes.
The clomping got closer... and then the clomping was followed by Kiera’s laughter.
“Mom?” She said.
I stepped out of the aisle I was on and could not help but smile at the sight that greeted me. Kiera was clomping down the aisle in a pair of black high heel boots.
“Look!” She said grinning broadly at me. “Aren’t these cute?”
Laughing, I agreed that the shoes were indeed cute. “They maybe a tad bit big.” I replied. “But let me take a picture and send to Daddy.”
Smiling, she posed as I quickly snapped a picture. Then she proceeded to clomp back down to Grandmommy.
I ducked back into my aisle and continued my search.
A short moment later, I heard a shuffle/clomp and knew that Kiera was on her way back to me. I couldn’t help but smile as I waited for her to get closer to me.
“Aren’t these beautiful?” She asked turning her foot so I could admire the flowers that were on top of the white strappy-heeled sandals.
“Those do look pretty.” I agreed.
“And guess what? They were $90 and now they are on sale for $54.” She exclaimed excitedly.
“Oooh.” I responded a little less enthusiastically and snapped a picture to send on to Aaron. Not that I planned on purchasing them anyways, they were a few sizes too big, but still…
“That’s a good deal.” Kiera stated as she turned and shuffle/clomped her way back to Grandmommy.
I chuckled to myself as I forwarded the picture to Aaron. He quickly responded back asking exactly who we were shoe shopping for.
By this time, I had managed to narrow down my tennis shoes hunt between two pair. Before I could make a decision, Kiera came striding down the aisle towards me in a pair of rose gold wedge sandals. She was carrying the box that the shoes normally resided in.
“Mom! Look at these!” She exclaimed.
“Wow. Those are very pretty.” I replied.
Before I could ask the cost, she pulled the box close to her chest. “Now, I know if you look at the price on the box, you are going to want me to take them off right away.” She said.
I inwardly cringed, because honestly, the sandals were super cute on her.
“But,” She continued on. “They are on sale too.”
I squinted at her waiting for the rest.
“They’re $60.” She said.
I resisted choking. “Where did you find them?” I asked.
“On that rack over there.” She pointed towards the clearance rack.
I walked over with her and quickly figured the cost would be closer to $30 and wavered for a few minutes.
“Honey. You couldn’t wear them to school.” I stated picturing the wear and tear they would receive on a playground.
“I know.” She responded as she glided from rack to rack.
“Baby, they actually are a couple of sizes too big for you.” I said looking closely at the way the shoes fit her feet. “How about we look for shoes for you later? And besides, your birthday is coming up and you wanted to redo your bedroom…” I trailed off, hoping she would understand.
“Ok.” She replied as she sat on the ground to begin unbuckling them. “Maybe next time.”
I breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed the box of tennis shoes that I had decided on and we made our way to the front before she could be distracted by another pair of beautiful shoes.
I think her Daddy may need to start working on a shoe closet for the future.
