Sparkling Cat Eyes

Friday afternoon, Kiera and I were getting ready for her school Fall Festival. Well, technically, by the time I got home, she was all ready. Thankfully, she has an amazing woman who watches her after school. She fixed Kiera’s hair, helped her get in costume, gave her a snack and had her resting quietly by the time I came home.

I may have to have her come back to fix Kiera’s hair for Halloween… anyways, I’m getting off track.

We had about 30 minutes before we needed to be at the festival so I hurriedly looked for something to wear. I had plans to just do a little glitter on my eyes and some spray-in hair color, just for fun.

I sat down, opened the glitter eye shadow package and read the directions. Basically, it boiled down to, “Apply this, apply that, boom and done!” Not difficult at all.

I applied the liquid adhesive, and then dipped my eye shadow brush in the glitter.

Glitter poofed out of the tiny, circular dish and settled on my makeup table. I closed one eyelid and swiped the glitter-covered brush over my eyelid. I opened my eye and blinked in amazement. Glitter had not only settled on my eyelid but also under my eye.

I gently wiped underneath my eye to remove the excess glitter. Amazingly enough, it did not budge. I wiped a little harder.

Nope. Glitter stayed put. At this point, I wondered about the whole adhesive part. Why did I apply the adhesive if the glitter immediately fuses to your skin no matter if you brush it on or it flies through the air and settles?

I stared in the mirror for a moment, before deciding that I was running out of time and would just make the best of the situation.

I dabbed the brush in the glitter again, causing another small glitter cloud to once again settle on my makeup table, then swiped some under my eye. Satisfied, I quickly did the other eye, and then added a couple of silver stars to finish the effect.

“Kiera! Come here!” I hollered.

As she came in the bedroom, I turned to face her, pleased with my efforts. “What do you think?” I asked.

“Oh.” She said.

“You don’t like it?” I asked.

“Well. I like what is on top of your eyes, but underneath… ya…” She paused. I could tell she was searching for the correct words so as not to offend me.

“I think if you did more of a cat eye, it would look better.” She stated, turning away from me to walk out of the room. “Definitely a cat eye look.”

I sat in my chair for a moment, wondering how my child knew about a “cat eye” look and how I would probably have to YouTube it just to do that correctly.

Giving up on that train of thought, I headed to the bathroom and swiped under my eyes with a wet rag. I was shocked when it came off easily. I went back to my room and sat back down at my makeup table determined to pull off a “cat eye.”

After a few more puffs of glitter clouds, I was once again pleased with the outcome. But, before I became too confident, I asked Kiera to come back in the bedroom.

“How is this?” I asked.

“That is so much better.” She stated with a smile.

Happy that I was acceptable, I grabbed a can of white spray hair color and went back into the bathroom. I selected a small strand of hair and sprayed it.

‘It didn’t look too bad,’ I thought to myself.

Kiera was standing in the hall as I came out of the bathroom. “You ready to go?” I asked.

She glanced at my hair and nodded her head.

Noticing her look, I squinted my eyes at her before asking, “What do you think about my hair?”

“It looks good, if you’re trying to look like a grandma.” She replied without any hesitation.

Not missing a beat, I grabbed the turquoise hair color off the counter and quickly sprayed it over the top of the white. I turned back to face my sweet child. “How about this?” I asked.

“That looks good.” She replied with a smile.

Also, just for anyone that is curious about the outcome of the small glitter clouds that poofed out of the dish. Well, they have settled… on everything. When I applied my makeup Monday morning for work, I noticed that I had glitter on brushes that were not even in the same vicinity of the glitter clouds. Needless to say, I did have a little extra sparkle about me… and probably will for a couple more weeks.
